Jokowi Camp Draw Up Political Gimmick for Ma'ruf Amin in Debate

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A campaign advisor for Jokowi - Ma'ruf Amin pair, Romahurmuziy, said his team has drawn up a special preparation for Ma'ruf to face the upcoming presidential debate.
“We set a political gimmick for Kiai Ma'ruf as his preparation, marketing gimmick. We give training,” said Romahurmuziy or Romi in Menteng, Jakarta, Tuesday.
According to Romi, the vice presidential candidate needed a special political method since a debate is a time to show off. Thus, Ma'ruf Amin must appear convincing before the public. “It requires a certain gimmick,” he said.
Romi explained his team deliberately prepared a political gimmick for Ma'ruf because the latter should present a different communication style than when the chairman of Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) gave a public sermon.
“Because an approach to the people who are frequently watching television is different than that to people in general,” Romi noted.
Romi further explained that Ma'ruf Amin will be positioned as Jokowi’s partner during the presidential debate, based on his role as ulema who accompanied umara or leader.
