TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The politics communication director of National Campaign Team (TKN) of Jokowi - Ma’ruf, Usman Kansong, said Jokowi would use the election debate to compete against his opponent Prabowo Subianto regarding the commitment on the human right violation issue.
“I think it [the debate] will not be different than the debate in 2014. At that time, Pak JK (Jusuf Kalla) questioned human right violation issue [to Prabowo],” said Usman Kansong to Tempo in Menteng, Jakarta, Monday, January 14.
During the election debate in 2014, Jusuf Kalla who was a running mate of Jokowi grilled Prabowo regarding the commitment to expose old cases of human right violation and to preserve human rights in the future.
The first presidential election debate will take place January 17, 2019, with themes on legal, corruption, human rights, and terrorism issues.
Lokataru Foundation executive director Haris Azhar, meanwhile, predicted the first election debate would run awkwardly considering the two pairs, Jokowi - Ma'ruf and Prabowo - Sandiaga, would not touch on the cases of the human right issue during the event.
“Both pairs will keep each other shame,” said Haris during a discussion in MMD Inisiatif in Kramat, Jakarta, Monday, January 14.
