TEMPO.CO, Tanjungpinang - The MT Antea tanker ship and the MV Star Centurion ship were reported to have collided at the waters of Berakit, Bintan Regency, Riau Islands. The MV Star Centurion had on board men who work on the underwater pipeline.
Budi Cahyadi, head of the Tanjungpinang Search and Rescue Office (SAR), said on Monday, said the collision occurred last night, and one of the ships is tilted.
Budi said he had received reports that 22 passengers had been rescued by lifeboats.
"When the ship crashed, two lifeboats were deployed and then two rescue dragged them. Passengers were successfully taken to the Port of Singapore," he said.
Budi had also contacted Singapore authorities to confirm this. Meanwhile, the Tanjungpinang Search and Rescue Office (SAR) has dispatched a number of officers to standby at Kijang Waters, Bintan.
"They will return to base once they can confirm that all passengers are safe," he said.
Budi was reluctant to reveal the chronology of the event, because it was beyond his authority. He said the agency authorized to reveal that information is the KSOP Tanjunguban, Bintan.
However, the KSOP Tanjunguban has not responded to questions about the ship collision.
