Jakarta Seeks Land Plots to Build More Park and Ride Facility

11 January 2019 12:37 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial administration is seeking plots of land that will be used as the park and ride facility outside the capital city. The acting head of Jakarta Transportation, Sigit Wijatmoko, said the asset exploration was focused in the areas of Tangerang, South Tangerang, and Depok.

“We prepare park and ride facility to ensure the connectivity, especially for those living in outer Jakarta to shift to public transportation,” said Sigit in a phone call with Tempo, Thursday evening, January 10.

Other than to encourage people utilizing public transportation, the parking facility also aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in Jakarta. The city administration planned to diminish 69,000 parking spaces in the Sudirman-Thamrin area. As the replacement, the park and ride facility would be opened near the public transportation terminal located in the city border area.

The Jakarta administration had inked an agreement with Bekasi and Bogor administrations in light of the facility construction in ten areas of the two regions.

“We want all construction (of park and ride facility) to be started in 2019, and can be soon utilized,” Sigit pinned hope.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan previously planned to build parking spaces outside Jakarta, including park and ride facility near LRT and MRT station which he expected would reduce the congestion in the city.

Currently, Jakarta Transportation Agency’s parking management unit has opened the operational of the park and ride facilities in Ragunan Terminal, Kampung Rambutan Terminal, Kalideres Terminal, Pulo Gebang Terminal, and Thamrin 10.
