TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Megawati Soekarnoputri, the chairperson of the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), implied that her party did not only set for the 2019 presidential election but also demanded the cadres prepare strategies to win in the 2024 election.
“The 2019 election is just one moment. It is only one step that the real one is in 2024,” said Megawati during her speech in the 46th anniversary of PDIP in JIExpo Kemayoran, Thursday, January 11.
According to Megawati, 2024 is a crucial year. “Why? Because generation reform will happen (in 2024). So, be ready. Don’t look to other sides, stay focus. It is the people who will rule,” said Megawati.
The result of the 2019 election could be indeed a determinant for the party to face the 2024 election, and voters in the legislation would be a factor whether the party could nominate its cadres in 2024. Therefore, Megawati pushes PDIP cadres to move ahead of the upcoming election on April 17.
“We have a short time. It’s only 97 days left towards the election. So, move. This party must win, and Pak Jokowi must be re-elected as president,” Megawati underlined.
She further reminded her cadres to remain solid. “Don’t fight over chairs. Don’t attack each other. Set aside conflict. Avoid devide et impera (a divide and rule strategy). Don’t spread disunity, hoax, and hatred.”
Megawati Soekarnoputri reasoned that if PDIP experienced an internal clash, it meant that the party had been already beaten since the beginning. “[But] if [the cadre is] solid, PDIP wins half of the fight to then embrace the people and win their heart,” she added.
