Malang Signs Sister City Agreement with Hebron, Palestine

10 January 2019 22:59 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Malang City has embarked on a cooperation of sister city with Hebron City, Palestine. Malang Mayor Sutiaji and his counterpart Tayseer Abu Sneineh shared the same opinion that both towns have connections.

"Malang City and Hebron City have similarities, both are heritage cities that have historical buildings," said Sutiaji in Malang City Hall on Monday, January 7, 2019. The sister city program was marked by the signing of an agreement between mayors of the two cities.

Sutaji explained that the ties will be followed up by partnerships in tourism, education, and economic sector. In the tourism sector, Sutiaji hoped that the number of Palestinian tourist visit would increase, and vice versa. "Hebron City is located near Jerusalem," Sutaji noted.

The mutual cooperation also aimed for investment in the health sector, by constructing hospital, waste management, and fire fighting.

"Hebron is known as an education city," said Tayseer Abu Sneineh. Tayseer wished that the partnership in the education sector would support and develop the education for Palestine people. Currently, four Palestinian students have obtained a scholarship in Brawijaya University, Malang.
