TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) of Makassar City appealed to all mass media, either printed, electronic, or online, to not airing advertisement related to the campaign for all participants of the 2019 general election before the set time.
Makassar Bawaslu commissioner Zulkarnain conveyed the statement today, January 9, in Makassar. According to him, the campaign commercial is allowed to be displayed starting from March 24 until April 13, 2019, followed by the election silence on April 13-16.
He reminded the election participants who run a campaign in mass media before March 24 would be qualified as campaigning outside of the official campaign period. “The sanction will be one-year imprisonment and a fine of up to Rp12 million,” said Zulkarnain.
The case would be handled by the election integrated law enforcement center or Gakkumdu of Bawaslu of South Sulawesi.
Based on Bawaslu observation thus far, several media aired commercial containing campaign materials. He further hoped the media to refrain such an act. “Let’s together comply with the existing rule,” said Zulkarnain.
