TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of neighborhood association (RW) 7 of Marunda sub-district, Jana Didi, urged the Jakarta administration to get rid of soil mounds contained hazardous and poisonous waste (B3 waste) near the low-cost apartment Marunda immediately. The people feared the mounds would be detrimental for children because they often play with the soil mounds.
“I and the people here hope a related agency will remove this waste soon,” said Jana when met at his house, Tuesday, January 8.
He said several government officials, starting from the village chief, sub-district chief, to Mayor of North Jakarta, had inspected the location. But, the waste had not been yet removed as it was named as evidence.
If the government did not plan to get rid of the toxic waste immediately, he opines, they should continually disseminate and educate the people regarding its danger considering the community is interested to buy the soil for household purpose due to its affordable price.
“There was no dissemination on the waste. So the people do not know that they buy waste,” Jana noted.
Based on Tempo observation, the soil mounds of B3 waste was located around Marunda apartment at the height of 1 to 1.5 meters. From a distance, the industrial waste was viewed as beach sand dune, but in a closer look, the mounds look like wheat flour and release a pungent smell.
