TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The heavily polluted Pisang Batu River at Tarumajaya, Bekasi District is said to have accumulated tons of household and market wastes in just one month that allegedly originated from Bekasi City.
“We already looked into this and tracked down the origins of the trashes,” said Dodi Agus, the head of Bekasi district’s environmental agency.
According to him, the Bekasi City is the river’s upstream that passes through residential areas in the North Bekasi Districts and Medansatria that is home to a number of traditional markets.
Dodi said that his time discovered a trash pile measured to be 1 kilometer long, which he said is only a matter of time before it enters the river body within his region.
The Bekasi District administration plans to invite officials from Bekasi City for a meeting to handle this pressing issue that has grabbed the attention of the Indonesian central government through the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
