TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A tectonic earthquake jolted several areas in West Java Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at 16:54 local time. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded the quake at a magnitude of 5.4 in the Richter Scale.
The tremor did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami and was located at a coordinate of 7.85 degrees south latitude and 106.48 degrees east longitude. The epicenter was at the sea, 113 kilometers southwest Sukabumi, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
BMKG said the earthquake was felt in several areas in West Java such as Sukabumi, Cianjur, Bandung, and Jakarta with an intensity of II and III (MMI scale).
