Anies Baswedan Postpone City`s Rabies-Transmission Animal Control

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has instructed Jakarta’s Food Security, Marine and Agriculture agency (KPKP) to postpone the city’s program upon socializing the maintenance procedure for rabies-transmission animals.
He said that the city’s program had been misconceived as a government crackdown on stray dogs and cats.
“Involving the polemic of the animal operation, I have instructed the related agency to postpone the animal captures,” said Anies Baswedan in one of his Instagram posts today.

Anies Baswedan further explained that the city will fulfill three points before moving on with the program, first is to postpone the operation; secondly is to discuss the city’s intent to animal lovers community, and finally to conduct the program in partnership with communities.
Previously, head of KPKP’s animal husbandry and health Sri Hartati denied that there will be a massive crackdown on stray animals and maintained that the Jakarta administration will, in fact, hold socializations on how to care and maintain animals that could potentially transmit rabies.
