TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Indonesia (FKUI), Prof. Ari F Syam, claimed that the tuition of medical school in his institution was not pricey.
“For regular class, the single tuition fee (UKT) of UI is among the cheapest, including in the Faculty of Medicine,” said Ari in Jakarta, Monday, January 7.
The single tuition for the regular class of FKUI is divided into several stages, which are adjusted to the parent’s income, and even parents could propose a lower price. “The UKT may be free or cost zero rupiah or UKT1 starting from 0 to Rp500,000,” Ari added.
Besides, the most expensive cost or UKT C is set at Rp15 million. Ari compared the figure to that of other state universities, whose upscale UKT could generally reach 50-100 percent higher than the highly-priced UKT in FKUI.

“Be a doctor at UI, it is cheaper than in other renowned state institutions. Not to mention if it is compared to the faculty of medicine of other national or private universities,” he remarked.
Therefore, he encouraged high-school students to set aside doubts and register to FKUI. Students from low-income families could request a scholarship established by the Alumni Association of the University of Indonesia through its program Orang Tua Asuh (foster parents) and Perkumpulan Penyantun Kesejahteraan Mahasiswa (Student Welfare Donation Association).
“Don’t be hesitant to opt for UI and FKUI because it offers affordable costs. Even students, without paying the costs, can become a doctor. Anyone can be a doctor from the top 10 best universities in Southeast Asia,” Ari remarked.
