TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice Presidential candidate Sandiaga Uno has voiced his support for police’s investigation on the recently rampant hoax of the discovery of seven containers filled with pre-casted electoral ballots at Jakarta’s Tanjung Priok harbor.
Sandiaga Uno argues that there have been too many attempts to delegitimize Indonesia’s democratic process.
“We wholly support the legal proceedings currently done by authorities. Police must crack down the source of the fabricated news or hoax, and how such things can be prevented in the future,” said Sandiaga on Sunday at South Jakarta.

Several days ago, a hoax spread across social media platforms taking the form of a voice recording of a man that claims there were seven containers that had loads of pre-casted ballots favoring the incumbent presidential and vice presidential candidates Jokowi – Ma’ruf Amin.
The effects were unfortunately outstanding which grabbed the attention of many internet users. The latest was the Democrat Party’s secretary general Andi Arief, who questioned the news’ authenticity through his Twitter account.
General Election Commission (KPU) immediately commenced a field search and found that it was a hoax while police named two suspects who are believed to be behind the spread of the fake news related to the upcoming presidential election.
