TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police (POLRI) have pledged to reveal the results of their investigation into the hoax on seven containers of cast ballots. The police said they would run a thorough investigation and arrest the hoax spreaders.
“Of course, POLRI will later release the investigation results to the public,” said National Police spokesperson Insp. Gen. Mohammad Iqbal at the National Police headquarters, South Jakarta, Friday, January 4.
Iqbal explained the police, the General Election Commission (KPU), and the Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) had inspected Tanjung Priok Port following the rumors.
“The authorities and stakeholders gathered there, and that is not merely a hoax but defamation, it’s completely false,” Iqbal underlined.

The KPU and the Bawaslu then filed a case report to the police’s criminal investigation division on January 3, 2019. Iqbal said the investigation was still underway, and the police were likely to summon Democrat politician Andi Arief regarding his Twitter post on the issue.
“We are open to possibilities to summon all parties, we will take stern action against anyone behind this issue,” Iqbal noted.
The police’s criminal investigation division has prepared several articles on Information and Electronic Transactions or Cyber Law (UU ITE) and General Election Law for the suspects who spread the hoax or false news on seven containers full of cast ballots.
