TEMPO.CO, Solo - State-run airliner Garuda Indonesia would operate Solo-Madinah route flight starting next week, January 9, 2019, in a bid to optimize the service for Umrah pilgrims.
“Demands on Umrah flights are high, so we want to optimize the market,” said Garuda Indonesia general manager for the branch office of Surakarta, Hermawan, in Solo, Central Jakarta, Thursday, January 3.
Hermawan said the flight route would transit in Aceh to accommodate Jemaah who departs from Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport.
Garuda has prepared Airbus 330 with a capacity of 360 passengers. “The route will take off every Wednesday at 16:00 local times,” he added.
To date, Garuda Indonesia serves Umrah flights with a route of Solo-Jeddah. Thus, with this additional route, the flight frequency will be four times a week.
Earlier, head of Association of Hajj and Umrah Travel Bureau (Perpuhi) of Surakarta, Her Suprabu, said the number of Umrah Jemaah from Solo and surrounding areas gradually increased. Last year, the pilgrims amounted to 25,000 people, compared to the previous year at 19,000 people.
