5 Special Cuisines from 5 Countries in Celebrating New Year

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - It is very common for people to set various events and activities to welcome the 2019 New Year. A number of countries, apparently, have special traditional cuisines to celebrate the new year.
Here are the five dishes people eat in five countries din celebrating the new year.
1. Japan
Japan has a special food to welcome the new year, namely Toshikoshi Soba. Soba is a typical Japanese noodle that symbolizes long life. This food is usually served with sweet and savory broth, kamaboko, and nori as the topping.
2. Hungary
Hungary also has a special food to celebrate the new year, namely Beilgi. Beilgi is a rolled cake with walnut filling.
3. Philippines
The Philippines welcomed the new year with their special food called Bibingka. It is said to have similarities with Indonesian food. Even the ingredients are almost similar. Bibingka is made from rice flour and coconut milk.
4. China
Many people in China usually welcome the new year by eating Tangyuan or Yuan Xiao. Tangyuan is a dumpling made from wheat flour. It is usually eaten during holiday and served with sweet broth.
5. Poland
Herring became mandatory food during the new year in Poland. Herring has silver scales. The silver color of the fish symbolizes prosperity in the new year. Herring also symbolizes the hope of getting a lot of fortune in the new year.
