TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Depok City administration ensures the safety of bus transportation during the year-end holiday by conducting a urine test to the drivers.
The head of Depok Public Transportation Agency Anton Taufani said the urine test was carried out based on the instruction from the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya.
“One of them is to ensure the bus crew are healthy and not using substances categorized as drugs,” Anton told Tempo, Saturday, December 29, adding that medical tests such as the check of blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose will also be carried out.

The checkup is in cooperation with the Transportation Agency, the Greater Jakarta Transportation Management Agency (BPTJ), the Health Office, and the Depok City National Narcotics Agency (BNN).
“A total of 35 drivers have undergone the urine test and medical check,” he said.
The checkup, said Anton, was carried out in Depok and Jatijajar Bus Stations on December 26 and 28, respectively. The result will be available in January.
The head of National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of Depok, Adjunct Sr. Comr. Rusli Lubis, said that he would conduct a further check on the drivers who are positive for using drugs. “[They are] not allowed to continue the trip,” he said.
The urine test is conducted for the safety of bus passengers and bus crew and other road users ahead of the year-end holiday season.
“There should be no bus driver who is reckless while driving because of using drugs,” said Rusli.
