TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Low-cost carrier Citilink Indonesia has officially provided in-flight connectivity or free Wi-Fi to generate more experience for its passengers.

“Being the first airliner that provides free Wi-Fi onboard is Citilink’s commitment, 'goes to digital or die',” said Citilink Indonesia president director Juliandra Nurtjahjo in the office of Garuda Indonesia, Jakarta, Friday, December 28.

Citilink utilized Wi-Fi GX Aviation system by technology firm Mahatta for its internet services. Juliandra said the free internet network was necessary as 70 percent of its passengers were of the millennial generation that actively used social media.

Flight routes installed with in-flight Wi-Fi are Cengkareng-Denpasar, Denpasar-Cengkareng, Cengkareng-Balik Papan and Cenkareng-Medan.

“This morning, we have provided free Wi-Fi, it’s even made viral on social media. We will later give 50 megabytes/second for each passenger. We have calculated enough network speed for chatting and social media access,” Juliandra mentioned.

He further explained no additional charge would be applied for Citilink airplanes with in-flight Wi-Fi. “On January 19, there will be 19 airplanes that will provide free Wi-Fi,” Juliandra noted.
