Prabowo Visits Mass Graves of Aceh Tsunami Victims

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The presidential candidate number 2, Prabowo Subianto, visited the public cemetery or mass graves of tsunami victims in Siron, Aceh Besar, Wednesday, December 26. The Gerindra Party chairman and his entourage prayed for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami.
“Hopefully, the spirits of the tsunami victims will be received in the best place on the side of God and the families left will be given the spirit and determination to carry out the tasks in the present and the future,” Prabowo said.
An earthquake with magnitude 9.2 that occurred at 7 am, Sunday, December 26, 2004, followed by a tsunami has devastated Aceh.
The disaster that hit Aceh has claimed the lives of more than 200,000 people and they were buried en masse in two locations, namely in Ulee-lheue, Banda Aceh and in Gampong (village) Siron, Aceh Besar.
Prabowo visited Aceh in response to the invitation of the Aceh Party chairman, Muzakir Manaf, in the framework of the 14th year of the Aceh tsunami commemoration, which was held in TPI Lampulo, Banda Aceh. It was started with dhikr and a joint prayer led by Tgk Muhammad Ali or Abu Paya Pasi.
Prabowo also visited the tomb of the founder of the Dayah Istiqamatuddin Darul Mu'arif, the late Tgk Muhammad Bin Zamzami, at the dayah Gampong (village) complex in Lambro Bileu, Kuta Baro, Aceh Besar. Prabowo continued the gathering with the ulemas and Islamic boarding school students.
“I will never forget the services of the Acehnese people for Indonesia. When Indonesia became independent, the Acehnese people were willing to collect gold, bracelets, jewelry and precious stones to buy the first airplane for Indonesia named Seulawah,” Prabowo said.
