TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The TNI AU (Indonesian Air Force) spokesman M. Yuris claimed that the shooter and Lieutenant Colonel Dono Kuspriyanto, did not know each other, even though they were fellow TNI (Indonesian military) members.

Lieutenant Colonel Dono was shot dead by Second Sergeant Jhoni Risdianto in the Jatinegara area, East Jakarta, Tuesday before midnight, December 25.

“We have checked his cellphone. There is not a single conversation or message related to the victim,” Yuris told reporters at Kodam Jaya Media Center, Wednesday, December 26.

“So we can conclude that between the perpetrator and the victim, they did not know each other,” he said.

Within five hours, Jhoni was arrested by joint personnel of TNI and police in the area of Jalan Wijaya Kusuma, Makasar Village, Kramatjati District, East Jakarta, Wednesday morning, December 26.

Yuris said that currently the witnesses and evidence had led to Jhoni. In addition, Jhoni has admitted that he shot Dono.

“However, we continue to put forward the principle of presumption of innocence until there is a court decision,” he said.

The Indonesian Air Force, he said, would be transparent in processing the suspect legally to completion. According to him, this case is a pure unplanned crime act committed by the Indonesian Air Force member.

“So please have no assumptions or perceptions that are related to anything else,” he said.

Yuris said his unit expressed the condolences for the death of Lieutenant Colonel Dono and it would bear all the funeral costs and the equipment to complete. “The Indonesian Air Force will bear all the costs,” he said.

A resident who was at the scene said he saw the shooter of Lieutenant Colonel Dono, walking from the Church of Santa Maria to the busway lane in the middle. After that, the perpetrator casually entered the busway lane until he pointed his gun. “There were four gunshots,” he said.
