Tourists Flock Mount Bromo in Christmas Despite Active Status

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The drastic increase of visitors flocking Mount Bromo during the Christmas holidays risen 26 percent compared to the usual days with 18,489 domestic tourists and 95 international tourist visits.
“This is an increase compared to the same period last year,” said Jhon Kenedy, Head of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS).

The same period in 2017 saw Mount Bromo attract 14,475 domestic tourists and 75 international tourists. As a comparison, visitations during usual days amount to 2,000 visitors. This tourist spot charges domestic visitors up to Rp67,500 per person and a whopping Rp640,000 for foreign tourists during holiday seasons.
The Mount Bromo eruption four years ago and its crater’s active alert status did not stop people from enjoying the exotic tourist site. Visitors are alerted to stay at least one kilometer from the mountain’s crater.
