PLN Recovers 160 Electricity Stations Crashed due to Tsunami

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned electricity PLN continued to quicken the recovery process of electricity service in the area affected by the tsunami in Pandeglang, Banten. Executive Vice President Corporate Communication and CSR PLN I Made Suprateka said a total of 160 power supplies had been restored.

Another 88 power stations are currently under repair,” said Made as quoted from a written statement in Jakarta, Monday, December 24.

On Saturday evening, December 22, a tsunami struck the coastal areas of Sunda Strait. According to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), several districts affected by the disaster are Pandeglang, Serang, South Lampung, Tanggamus, and Pesawaran.

Made said his company had found at least 39 electricity poles collapsed due to the devastating incident. To deal with the issue, he added, PLN deployed 187 personnel.

PLN also delivered several aids from its offices, namely UP3 Unit Banten, UP3 Disjaya, UP 3 Bogor, PDKB team, as well as construction and maintenance vendors.

Today, December 24, PLN directors lead by president director Sofyan Basir held a farewell session for PLN official named Trino Erwin who became a victim of the tsunami in the coastal area of Tanjung Lesung, Serang, Banten. At the time, employees of PLN West Java unit joined a gathering event around the beach.

Data released by PLN on Monday, December 24, a total of 41 PLN employees and families fell victim of the tsunami. At least two of them still went missing, while 156 people survived.
