TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that there was no special meeting with businessman Erwin Aksa at the Vice-President Palace on December 14, 2018, regarding the Jakarta deputy-governor candidate.
According to Anies, his meeting with Erwin was not intentional because there was a discussion on evaluating the 2018 Asian Games event.
"There was no meeting. It was photographed when we were passing [each other],” Anies said at the Jakarta City Hall on Friday, December 21, 2018.
Anies said that when he met with Erwin, they discussed the issue of Erwin's proposal as a candidate for Jakarta deputy governor. Erwin's response, according to Anies, was surprised. Anies claimed that he was also surprised. "The problem is, we don't know who spread the issue," Anies said.
Previously, rumor stated that Anies had proposed Erwin to be his assistant as Jakarta deputy governor. Erwin is a businessman and politician from the Golongan Karya (Golkar) Party. Erwin is the nephew of Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
