TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Metro Jaya Police mobilized its personnel to escort rally participants that plan to hold a protest today in front of the Chinese Embassy. The rally is a show of support for the well-being of Uighur Muslims.
“We will be escorting the rally participants,” said Metro Jaya Police spokesman Grand. Comm. Prabowo Argo Yuwono at his office today, Dec. 21.
The 212 brotherhood spokesman Novel Bamukmin confirmed that the rally will demand the Chinese government to stop their maltreatments against Uighur Muslims in China.
“We will also demand the Indonesian government to drive out China’s Ambassador,” said Novel, who explained that the rally participants will be joined by members from various mass organizations. “This is just a warm-up,” warned Novel.
The United Nations’ human rights committee stated that around one million Uighur Muslims were detained by Beijing authorities without proper legal proceedings. According to a committee member, Gay McDougall, the Uighur autonomous region was transformed into something resembling more of a concentration camp.
