TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta National Narcotics Agency (BNNP DKI) revealed that students in Jakarta ranked as top consumers of a known synthetic drug called Gorilla Tobacco which is considered as a cheaper alternative to marijuana.
“In fact, they do not know that what they’re smoking is synthetic marijuana,” said Khrisna Anggara, BNNP DKI Head of public prevention and empowerment at the agency’s headquarters on Thursday, December 20.
Khrisna maintained that the synthetically-produced gorilla tobacco contains toxic elements and can potentially harm human’s body. Based on BNNP DKI`s field investigation, most consumers did not aware of basic information about the drug.
“We have a socialization program across 104 schools this year,” said Khrisna. One of the topics that will be discussed is the dangers of narcotics, including synthetic gorilla tobacco.
The BNNP DKI has monitored 68 schools across Jakarta, which cover Junior High, Senior High, and vocational high schools. They concluded that students would often abuse the consumption of illegal drugs including gorilla tobacco prior to holding a riot against other schools.
