TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A total of 178,000 people are expected to use the extra electric train (KRL) provided by PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) on 2019 New Year's Eve in the Jakarta Greater area.

The state-owned railway company PT KAI provide 23 extra KRL trips that are operated from 11 pm to 2 am on 2019 New Year’s Eve.

KCI President Director Wiwik Widayanti said the estimated increase in the number of passengers referred to the average increase in the previous year, which reached 17 percent. Last year, the number of passengers onboard on the extra trips reached 117,689 people.

“The number of passengers per day this year has increased compared to the previous year, with the same percentage,” Wiwik said at a news conference in the Cikini, Central Jakarta, Thursday, December 20.

Wiwik said the number of passengers per day this year has increased from 850,000 to 997,000 per day, compared to the previous year.

Next year, the average of passengers is targeted to reach 1.2 million per day.

Until October 2018, KCI noted that there were 307 million KRL passengers in the Jakarta Greater area. This year, it targets 335,000 passengers.

“From the data on November 30, the passengers have reached 92 percent,” Wiwik added.
