Jakarta Metro Police Report an Increase in Traffic Accidents

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metro Police reported that there were 5,400 traffic accidents that occurred in its jurisdiction from January to November 2018.

The accidents caused the death of 524 people, severely injured 804 people, while 5,236 people suffered from minor injuries.

Head of the Jakarta Metro Police’s traffic coaching and law enforcement Adj. Sr. Comm. Budiyanto said that statistics show that the number of accidents increased in 2018. “The data shows just that,” he said today, Dec. 19.

Budiyanto explained that there were 5,140 traffic accidents from January to November 2017, with 6,028 victims. Meanwhile, traffic accidents in 2018 that involved motorcyclists reached 4,225 cases which are an increase compared to 2017 that saw 3,770 traffic accidents.
