TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - Surabaya Siloam Hospital has spoken about the giant sinkhole on Jalan Gubeng, Surabaya that appeared on Tuesday, December 18. The construction of the hospital development project was said to be the cause of the incident.
Surabaya Siloam Hospital General Affair Manager Budijanto Surjowinoto confirmed that retail and health facilities of the project owner are currently under construction. However, the owner had handed over the project to the contractor, PT Nusantara Konstruksi Engineering (NKE).
“The hospital will later become the user or tenant after the project completes,” said Budijanto in a written statement on Wednesday, December 19.
Jalan Raya Gubeng collapsed on late Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at around 21:10 local times. the incident caused a giant sinkhole at a depth of 20 meters and a length of 50 meters.
Surabaya administration suspected the sinkhole appeared due to construction error of the third-story basement project of Siloam Hospital. The temporary conclusion was made from the monitoring carried out by the city officials.
“I inspect the location this morning, and it turns out the incident is caused by an error in the construction project,” said Surabaya Development Planning Agency head Eri Cahyadi today, December 19.
Budijanto explained PT NKE had coordinated the project to the road agency PT Bina Marga, Surabaya Mayor Office, and all related institutions to assure the safety around the project site. “The contractor in the near future will immediately conduct recovery efforts as to soon re-operate the road,” he noted.
Budianto further assured that all patients in Surabaya Siloam Hospital are in safe condition and that the hospital still opens as usual.
“Surabaya Siloam Hospital hopes this incident will be soon recovered and supports the investigations carried out by related institutions,” Budijanto concluded.
