TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The issuance of Presidential Regulation (Perpres) for the electric car was postponed until the beginning of 2019.
The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan said that his party together with the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) would hold a meeting on Wednesday, December 19.
“We will hold a meeting to finalize the Perpres,” said Luhut at the Bappenas Office, Tuesday, December 18.
After that, the Maritime Coordinating Ministry will request a limited meeting with the President Jokowi. Thus, Luhut estimates the Perpres for the electric car will be issued early next year.
Initially, the Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto promised that the Perpres for electric car would be issued at the end of 2018.
According to Luhut, Hyundai has stated interest in moving its car factory and developing electric car in Indonesia.
Indonesia, said Luhut, has the potential to become the center for the development of electric car in the future. Because the construction of the largest lithium battery factory in the world will be built in Morowali, Central Sulawesi. This factory can supply lithium batteries for motorcycle and electric car.
