TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A group of workers, members of the Federation of Metal, Electronic, and Machine Workers Union (FSP LEM SPSI), urged Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan to raise the 2019 provincial minimum wage (UMP).
Regional head of Jakarta FSP LEM SPSI, Yulianto, said workers demanded Governor Anies revise the regulation concerning the UMP Jakarta in 2019.
“We want Pak Anies to revise the UMP Jakarta which presently values Rp3.9 million,” said Yulianto before the City Hall in Central Jakarta, Tuesday, December 18.
Yulianto explained that the UMP of the capital is lower than those of neighboring cities, which are Karawang and Bekasi.
The minimum wage for workers in Karawang in 2019 reaches Rp4,234,020.27, while in Bekasi sets at Rp4,229,756.61. Both hikes were based on the Government Regulation (PP) No. 78/2015 concerning Wages.
“We have lost to Karawang and Bekasi. Years ago, UMP Jakarta had the highest salary,” Yulianto noted.
The Jakarta administration previously decided to increase the UMP Jakarta to Rp3,940,937.06, as referred to the PP No. 78/2015 which stipulating an increase at 8.03 percent.
The Indonesian Labor Unions Confederation (KSPI) had earlier protested the 8.03-percent hike.
KSPI head Said Iqbal said Anies Baswedan should not follow the PP 78/2015 and raise the UMP Jakarta by 20-25 percent at Rp4.2 million that based on the survey on standard living components (KHL).
