TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank BRI is reportedly interested in opening a partnership with Alipay (Ant Financial) and WeChat Pay (Tencent) after the bank is planned to develop a payment system based on QR code technology, MyQR.

“So far, it has provided benefits and added value that surely attracted the attention of BRI to open a partnership with Alipay and WeChat Pay,” said BRI operations and information technology director Indra Utoyo on Monday, December 17.

So far, BRI has worked together with offshore payment systems that support transactions via Visa, Mastercard, and Union Pay.

The My QR facility was first launched in August of 2018 where bank customers were able to use the payment system through their BRI Mobile app that is based on T-Bank as its fund source. BRI has allocated a significant amount of IT spending in order to strengthen its digital infrastructure system; backbone, data center, and network unit standardization.
