TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former governor of West Nusa Tenggara Tuan Guru Bajang Zainul Majdi, also known as TGB, was said to have joined the National Democratic (NasDem) Party.
"Yes [TGB] has joined [NasDem],” said NasDem Secretary General Johnny G Plate when confirmed by Tempo on Monday, December 17, 2018.
The NasDem Central Executive Council (DPP) chairperson Irma Suryani Chaniago, also stated the same thing.
"NasDem's strength increases in NTB, as well as the coalition's strength of the Jokowi-Ma'ruf National Campaign Team [TKN],” Irma Suryani said when contacted separately.
In July 2018, TGB Zainul Majdi officially declared his resignation from the Democratic Party for personal reason. TGB has expressed support for President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo in the 2019 presidential election.
TGB support for Jokowi was first spread through messaging and social media applications. In the photo, it appeared TGB and Jokowi accompanied by writing "The benefit of the nation, people and common sense is a consideration. Jokowi is worthy and deserves the opportunity for two periods.
