KKP Ministry Announces Fisheries GDP this Year

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Ministry (KKP) announced that the fisheries sector only contribute to 3.71 percent of the total gross domestic product at the third quarter of 2018. The number is lower compared to the 6.85 percent recorded in same period of 2017.

"Despite the slower growth, the fisheries GDP economic value continued to rise each quarter since 2014 to the third quarter of 2018," said KKP Secretary General Nilanto Perbowo at the KKP ministry office in Central Jakarta on Monday, December 17, 2018.

The ministry recorded the that during the third quarter of 2018, the fisheries sector has generated IDR 59.98 trillion, which is expected to increase in the fourth quarter. The KKP also recorded a slight growth in fish production up to 1.93 percent (6.12 tons to 6.24 tons).

"Saltwater fish catch grew by 4.19 percent up to by the third quarter of 2018 while the total number of production of captured fishes reached 5.34 million tons," said Nilanto.

The KKP also recorded a 29.9 percent growth on the production of aquaculture during this year's third quarter compared to the same period last year, which sees the number rise from 4.3 tons to the latest of 5.6 tons.
