TEMPO.CO, Manado - State-owned electricity company PLN of North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, and Gorontalo (Suluttenggo) branch office reported that the eruption of Mount Soputan in Minahasa, North Sulawesi, did not affect the electricity network in the area.

“When Mount Soputan erupts, PLN team has instantly formed coordination to anticipate volcanic ash from the mountain,” said PLN Suluttenggo General Manager Edison Sipahutar Monday, December 17, in Manado, North Sulawesi.

Located in the southeast of Minahasa District, North Sulawesi, Mount Soputan has threefold erupted since early Sunday, December 16. Based on the Mount Soputan Observation Post in Silian, the first burst occurred at 01:02 (WITA) Central Indonesian Time with an amplitude of 40 millimeters followed by roaring sounds.

Coordination would be continuously carried out as to not affect the network of the electricity in North Sulawesi and Gorontalo, Edison added.

Head of Service and Distribution Unit of PLN Suluttenggo, Wahyu Catur Prasetyo, said that there are three electric feeders in Amurang, South Minahasa and that since Yesterday no blackout occurred. “The system is safe until now, and hopefully, there will be no failure,” Wahyu pinned hope.

He noted that his unit continuously anticipated natural interferences considering the unstable weather at present.

Meanwhile, PLN Suluttenggo communication unit manager Jantje Rau said that his side would maintain the best service for customers and the public. “We will always monitor the condition to keep the safe network,” said Jantje regarding the eruption of Mount Soputan.
