TEMPO.CO, Bogor - Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of Dramaga Climatology Station has issued an early warning regarding strong winds in several areas in Bogor. Powerful winds potentially cut trees which threaten public safety.
Dramaga Climatology Station head Budi Suhardi said the latest observation on Monday, December 17 at 06:00 a.m shows that possible strong wind and heavy rain followed by thunder or storm are predicted to struck several areas in Bogor, Depok, Bekasi, and most part of West Java.
“We appeal to the public, especially Bogor people, to stay alert of strong winds which is occurring since today morning,” said Budi.
The speed of strong winds in Bogor is recorded at around 10 to 20 kilometers per hour. “If the wind speed reaches over 50 kilometers per hour, it is an extreme condition and will cause a tornado, and that’s alarming,” he underlined.
Budi explains strong winds that hit Bogor areas, most parts of West Java, and other regions in Indonesia are caused by Kenanga tropical cyclone.
“The tropical cyclone strongly affect and can cause strong winds and thunder in several regions, but this cyclone usually mostly affect the height of the sea wave,” he added.
Budi adds that Bogor areas will be cloudy with light to moderate shower despite this morning, bright weather and strong winds hit the region. “Light rain potentially falls in Bogor and several areas in West Java,” he concluded.
