Soeharto Supporters on Guard at Supersemar Foundation Asset

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Dozens of individuals claiming to be supporters of the late New Order era President, Soeharto, gathered at the Granadi Building which is one of the Supersemar Foundation’s assets to be confiscated by the government.
Their arrival was to counteract a rally planned to be held today by the ‘state asset savior committee’ that supports the government’s decision to immediately confiscate the Granadi Building from the supersemar foundation.
“The Granadi building is one of the monuments from the new order corruption. The building houses a foundation that was funded by the corruption of the new order era,” as quoted from the invitation from the ‘state asset savior committee’ Tempo received since Sunday.

However, the masses from the committee have yet arrived at the location of the Granadi Building since 11:00 AM.
This clash between two groups is a direct effect of the South Jakarta District Court’s decision to confiscate the building that is owned by the Soeharto family, commonly known as Cendana family. The Supersemar Foundation was ordered by Supreme Court (MA) to pay Rp4.4 trillion in student scholarship fraud.
