Prabowo Subianto Rides Pillion to an Ojol Gathering

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential hopeful Prabowo Subianto was invited to a gathering (Kopdar) of online motorcycle taxi drivers, commonly called ojek or ojol, held at Sentul Circuit in Bogor, West Java, on Sunday, December 16.
Prabowo was taken to the location riding pillion on a luxurious large capacity scooter operated by a person wearing an online taxi driver’s outfit. The event was entitled Kopdar Ojol Towards Change 2019.
In his speech in front of dozens of drivers, Prabowo recalled his hobby of riding motorcycles when he was younger. He used that information to further imply that he sympathizes with the profession of the people present in front of him which is often faced with challenging weather conditions on a daily basis.
“I thank you all to the online ojek community that has invited me in here at Sentul,” said Prabowo according to a written statement received on Sunday, December 16.
Prabowo also took this chance to clarify his past statement that was considered by some as a degrading statement against online motorcycle taxi drivers. At the time, specifically at the Indonesia Economic Forum, Prabowo talked about his regrets on a large number of young generations working as ojol on a daily basis.
