TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) politician Dara Nasution revealed the reason why her political party is against polygamy practices in Indonesia.

"Because we can clearly see that the polygamy practices, in general, have presented more negatives than benefits," said Dara in the 'Women and Politics' discussion event on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Kuningan, South Jakarta.

Based on a polygamy study conducted by LBH APIK, Dara argued that polygamy creates a sense of injustice, emotionally hurts women, and neglects children. Dara's concern echoes the party chairwoman's view, who is also against the practice.

Dara said that PSI will fight for the ban on polygamy practiced by public officials, either executive, legislative, judiciary, up to State Civil Apparatus (ASN). The party itself has adopted a rule the bans its members from having more than one wife.

This means that PSI intends to revise Law No. 1/1974 on marriage, especially the elements that allow polygamy to take place.
