TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Member of the election supervisory agency (Bawaslu) Fritz Edward Siregar revealed thousands of violations that took place during the past three months of the official 2019 presidential election campaign period.
"Reports coming in together with Bawaslu findings saw 192,129 violations," said Fritz in a public discussion on Saturday, December 15, 2018, in Menteng, Jakarta.
Moreover, Bawaslu found 176,493 campaign advertisements were installed at numerous banned locations while 14,255 campaign properties contained illegal materials. The agency also noted that 1,381 campaign properties were wrongfully installed on public transportations.
"Up until Friday, Bawaslu found 414 campaign ads that should not have been advertised," said Fritz. Fritz referred to Bawaslu's regulation that only allows political media campaigns to be publicized 21 days prior to voting day.
In response to the numerous campaign property violations, Bawaslu either issued formal warnings or conducted immediate field actions. The agency has also processed criminal violations by working in tandem with the Integrated Law Enforcement (Gakkumdu) center.
