Ministry Orders Burning of Invalid e-KTP

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Home Affairs Ministry has issued a circular on the demolition procedures of invalid electronic identity cards, or popularly known as e-KTP.
Through Circular No. 470.13/11176/SJ, the ministry instructs that damaged e-KTP be destroyed by burning.
“This is to realize orderly administration and as part of our efforts to better the quality of our services and vigilance in population administration, and to avert misuse of invalid and damaged e-KTP,” the ministry announced as quoted from the circular, which was inked by the ministry’s Secretary General, Hadi Prabowo, on December 13, 2018.

As written in the circular, Hadi orders all regents and mayors to instruct their agency heads of population and civil registration agency to record and demolish invalid e-KTP issued in 2011-2013 in their jurisdictions.
“When finding invalid e-KTP cards, destroy them immediately by burning,” he said.
Hadi also requested complete reports on e-KTP demolition and heightened security in places where state documents were stored to keep them from being stolen or misused.
