Government Revises Inflation Target

12 July 2007 16:43 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The government has revised the 2007 inflation target from the previous 6.5 percent to six percent.According to Anggito Abimanyu, Head of the Fiscal Policy Agency, speaking in Jakarta on Thursday (12/7), the inflation target was lowered based on the result of preliminary monitoring by the Finance Department during the second quarter and the first half of this year.Anggito said that inflation realization between January and June 2007 was relatively low at only 2.08 percent. If we count the cumulative inflation from January to June, 2007 equals 2.08 percent, times two only results 4.16 percent. But the inflation range in 2007 was set at the number of 5.5 percent to six percent, he said. The inflation target of between 5.5 and six percent is an optimistic calculation which already includes the risk of soaring basic needs prices, especially during the fasting month and Eid. The inflation rate revision, said Anggito, will be announced to the Houses Budget Committee tonight (12/7).Anton Aprianto
