TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia is ready to evacuate patients, build field hospitals, and send more medical personnel to Gaza, at an emergency international conference on Gaza in Amman, Jordan, on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.
Prabowo also informed that Indonesia is ready to increase its contribution to supporting the work of the UN agency for refugees or UNRWA in Gaza.
“We will significantly increase our contribution to UNRWA and other immediate humanitarian assistance,” he said while representing President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo at the conference co-hosted by Egypt, Jordan, and the United Nations.
He further said that Indonesia is ready to “deploy a hospital ship and air assets to take part in airdrops" when necessary.
According to the president-elect, Indonesia is willing to evacuate 1,000 patients, namely war victims, and treat them in Indonesia. "We are also willing to evacuate one thousand patients to be treated in Indonesian hospitals and to be returned to Gaza once they recover and the situation in Gaza becomes normal," said Prabowo.
Indonesia is also willing to evacuate children and orphans from Gaza. "They will receive post-trauma treatment and send them to school, and they will be sent back once the situation in Gaza is normal," said Prabowo.
On the same occasion, Prabowo emphasized that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza can only end when Israel and Palestine agree on a two-state solution so both can live side by side.
"Only with a two-state solution can this conflict end," said Prabowo closing his speech.
The Jordan conference on Gaza was held at the initiative of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi, Jordanian King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Several state leaders attended the conference, including Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, and top officials from Iraq, Lebanon, Japan, Rwanda, Australia, Mozambique, the European Union, Cyprus, Germany, the European Commission, the UK, and Northern Ireland.
