Erick Thohir: Indonesia Must Focus to Face 2032 Olympics

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) suggested the government to implement the multi-year budget system as a preparation for the country to host the 2032 Olympics.
"The host of the 2032 Olympics will be chosen in 2024. We expect support from all parties because it is impossible for a team that aims for the nomination to use the annual budget system as usually carried out," said KOI president Erick Thohir during a discussion of the Indonesian Sports Community in Jakarta, Monday, December 10.
The chairman of Indonesian Asian Games Organizing Committee said the annual budget system would beset Indonesia in the host nomination because it would be potentially investigated by the State Prosecutor Office or National Police regarding the use of the state budget.
He asked the government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports to immediately form a team for the nomination process in 2019, as well as by involving all parties such as the Ministry of Finance, Commission X of the House of Representatives (DPR), Prosecutors, Police, and administrators of sports across Indonesia.
Meanwhile, DPR Commission X speaker Noor Achmad said that a meeting with all stakeholders is required to draft a multi-year budget system.
Indonesian Sports Community chairman Harry Warganegara said that the budget for the preparation to host the 2032 Olympics could come from private or state-owned enterprises.
"The government budget is still needed. But Indonesia also needs support from private sectors and state-owned enterprises, including multi-national companies in the country," said Harry, who is also the head of sports development commission of KOI.
