TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Deputy Chief Saut Situmorang seemed restless by the questions thrown by journalists regarding the unresolved cases handled by the anti-corruption agency.
“Please be patient, give me 20,000 people and I will fix Indonesia,” Saut bluntly said to a group of journalists after opening the anti-corruption national coordination meeting at Hotel Kartika Chandra in Jakarta today, December 11.
As it is known, a number of cases handled by the KPK have yet seen a shed of light, which according to the agency is mainly caused by several factors such as the limited manpower, hampered by other state authorities, and many more.
Saut maintained that all of the investigation of the cases are not hampered by political pressure.
“How can the KPK be pressured, who’s able to do that?” Saut asked sarcastically.
Previously, a survey done by the Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) and Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) showed that 52 percent of respondents agree that the level of corruption in Indonesia has increased. However, the same study states that KPK is still the most active in eradicating corruption by scoring 81 percent and 85 percent in effectiveness.
