TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Soekarno-Hatta Airport immigration office reported 746 foreign nationals had been denied entry into Indonesia up to December 8, 2018. The figure is a 40 percent rise compared to the 2017 data that saw 522 foreign nationals.

Immigration head Enang Supriyadi Syamsi said the agency was stepping up its monitoring against foreigners that intend to enter Indonesia without clear intentions, especially those bereft of income sources, no visa, and a return plan after visiting Indonesia.

“Foreigners’ deny of entry has increased significantly,” said Enang at his office on Monday, December 10.

Other than denying the entry of shady foreign citizens, the immigration office has also prevented the overseas departure of 428 people that include 138 non-procedural migrant workers (TKI).

The Soekarno-Hatta Airport immigration office has also increased its monitoring by mobilizing 1,000 personnel spread across several areas in the wake of the 2018 Christmas and New Year’s holiday season.
