Sri Mulyani Calls on Officials Not to Deprive People of Rights

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati firmly reminded every Indonesian regional administration personnel to fully utilize each region’s budget for the welfare of the people following increased amount of funds channeled by the central government.
“Do not irresponsibly take or reduce the people’s rights,” said Sri Mulyani today during her speech at the Finance Ministry’s event on the matter.
Regional administrations, according to the former World Bank managing director, must be able to provide people with job opportunities, reduce poverty, and handle rampant health issues such as stunting.

Sri Mulyani said the amount of funds from the central government was increasing, however, she lamented that a number of regional heads had irresponsibly slashed the budget that was supposed to used for the people's welfare.
Commenting on the hundreds of regional heads arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Sri Mulyani said, “That means that they lack conscience, they never thought about its people from the start,” she said.
