“We ask the government to seriously handling the air pollution, so it does not take casualties, especially the vulnerable community groups,” said Inayah Wahid, a member of the Ibu Kota Movement.

Melanie Subono, who is also a member of the Ibu Kota Movement, stated that breathing is a right for every individual and the government has failed to guarantee that right.

Based on Jakarta air quality monitoring data, the inhaled fine dust particles reached 38μg/m³ and even reached 100μg/m³ on certain days. According to WHO, the safe limit of fine dust particles inhaled by humans is 25μg/m³.

Nelson Nikodemus Simamora stated there were many violations committed by the government related to handling the air pollution issues. The emission tests on motor vehicles have never been carried out, announced or evaluated. In addition, the government does not regulate coordination for handling pollution between regions at all.
