TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani expressed the importance of social media in creating accountability for her office.
“We can witness a current change in phenomena, many people, millennials, and productive generations avidly utilizing internet and smartphones,” said Sri Mulyani today, Dec. 5, during her speech at the ‘Government’s Digital Media Festival’ event in Hotel Bidakara, South Jakarta.
This condition, she said, is a stark contrast compared to her time as finance minister under the Susilo “SBY” Bambang Yudhoyono administration where she could only rely on print media and radio to communicate with the public regarding the ministry’s policies.
Sri Mulyani further explained that the social media strategy as a means to communicate with the public was also applied by the World Bank when she worked there as Managing Director. The three social media at the time that was often used were Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
“This is one of our ways to inform the public and provide correct and fair information, and at the same time fight-off individuals that may not want the public to be informed,” said Minister Sri Mulyani.
