TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two earthquakes shook West Nias and Yogyakarta, respectively, earlier today. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded a 5.9-magnitude quake jolted West Nias, North Sumatra at 03:21, while minutes later another one originating from the Indian Ocean rocked Yogyakarta's southern parts.
Fortunately, BMKG announced through its social media account that the two earthquakes would not trigger the country’s tsunami warning.

The earthquake’s hypocenter in West Nias was at the depth of 10 kilometers while the one that hit Yogyakarta came from the depth of 18 kilometers.
The Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG) explained the earthquakes were triggered by the loose ground in the areas, which further amplified their effects.
