TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Facebook-owned WhatsApp seems serious about its plan to bring advertisement to its `Status` feature. This is something which the management confirmed during an interview with Tech Crunch in August.

“WhatsApp does not currently run ads in Status though this represents a future goal for us, starting in 2019. We will move slowly and carefully and provide more details before we place any Ads in Status,” a spokesperson told Techcrunch as quoted by zeebiz.com, Tuesday, November 27.

WABetaInfo said through Twitter that WhatsApp was testing ads inside the ‘Status’ feature, and the ad would be similar to those present on Instagram.

Instagram, also owned by Facebook, tracks users' browsing data and activity, which includes their interests and searches you make. This is done to be able to show individual uses relevant content in the form of ads.

Users have been responding negatively to the report, publicly vowing they would leave the app if ads appear on the platform.

WaBetainfo also ran a poll asking Twitter users if they would continue to use WhatsApp after the activation of the Status Ads. "Ads will appear between status updates, like Instagram. NEVER in chats." The tweet stated.
